First: know your codes. Exterior signs facing a roadway almost always need a permit, and every municipality plays by its own rules. The earlier you research, the fewer surprises at install.
Second: design for distance and speed. A sign read at 45 mph is a different object than one read on foot. The best marks reward both — bold from the road, detailed up close.
Third: plan for the build, not just the render. Materials, lighting, structure and mounting all shape what's actually possible. Designing and building under one roof means those constraints inform the concept instead of killing it.
